The Men’s Ministry of The Navigators held its first meeting for 2026 on Saturday, 28th February 2026. Forty-two young and old men participated in this great time of fellowship. It was not just a time to start the year together, but also another opportune moment to reconnect with Dr. Cliff Wilms, who came to Ghana from the United States of America (USA) a few years ago to help establish the men’s ministry. Participants had the great privilege of hearing Dr. Cliff, who has been married for 50 years, share rich insights drawn from Scripture and decades of faithful leadership. His passion is that men must succeed in their leadership roles in every sphere, especially in the home.

His first session focused on loving God, which he described as the foundation of transformation. Through passages such as Deuteronomy 6:4–9, Matthew 22:36–40, Mark 12:28–31, James 1:22, John 14:21, and Matthew 7:24–27, he emphasized that God desires men’s love and obedience. Some other key reflections included: discipleship happens at home; abundant life is found in obedience; spiritual disciplines position men for inner transformation by the Holy Spirit; men must replace lesser desires with something of far greater value (love for God); and embracing life’s difficulties with joy allows a man to see God at work. All participants were challenged to consider how spiritual disciplines shape not only the heart but also visible behaviours.
The second session focused on leading like Jesus as men. Drawing from the example of Jesus washing His disciples’ feet and reflections from Nehemiah 1 and 13, he highlighted the principle of servant leadership. He further defined Christian leadership as faithful presence. Servant leadership, he explained, is not about pleasing everyone but discerning and meeting real needs, and true spiritual leadership measures identity and transformation, not performance or public opinion. The men were reminded that self-worth must not be built on performance plus the opinions of others, but on who God created them to be.

The final session addressed the issue of marriage and the Proverbs 31 Woman. He encouraged men not to feel threatened by the Proverbs 31 woman, but rather to be inspired, because a loving husband creates an environment where his wife flourishes. Part of his closing words were, “The biggest gift you can give your children is to love your wife.”

The National Director, Mr. John Komla Ansah, also took the opportunity to encourage married men to manage their ego wisely and learn to truly listen to their wives. He shared personal experiences of how listening to his wife has led to some of his best decisions in the past two years.
Indeed, the forum was a refreshing reminder that a man’s primary calling is to love, love, and love.
