I’m R. Awinma, and I am being discipled by Kwame. My journey to joining The Navigators Ghana began after Senior High School. I attended Keta Senior High School and was an active member of Scripture Union (SU). SU had a great impact on me because I was just a newly converted Christian from an Islamic background. The Union was headed by leaders, one of whom was Teacher Kwame, a Navigator teaching Christian Religious Studies at Keta SHS, who played a great role as well. During those days, we had regular prayer sessions, evangelism, fasting, and many other activities, which kept me on my toes as a new convert.

However, after SHS, I was deeply concerned because I felt my spiritual life would decline since most of my family members were Muslims. Fortunately, my friend Freda, who introduced me to SU, was part of The Navigators, and so, she graciously asked me to join the Navigators. This was after she had spoken to Teacher Kwame. But it was not automatic, because Kwame wanted to know my level of seriousness, so he gave me some assignments, and upon completing them, I was added to this great family.

Looking back, I can confidently say Kwame and, for that matter, The Navigators have played a great role in my Christian life after school. These spiritual exercises, such as fasting and prayers, teaching of God’s word, and many other fruitful activities, have played and continue to play a great role in my Christian life. To encourage accountability, all of us who are being discipled are tasked to always post our daily Bible readings and quiet times in a common group. These practices helped and continue to help me consistently pursue spiritual growth.

Again, as a result of this, I’ve been able to read through the entire Bible. For instance, I have read through the New Testament twice and am presently on my third reading and also completed the Old Testament once. I see this as a great achievement, and I’m thankful to God for connecting me to the Navigators family.

I am also grateful to all who played a role in my journey of knowing and growing in God.
