Then David conferred with all his leaders, the commanders of hundreds and of thousands. And he said to the whole assembly of Israel, “If it seems good to you, and if this is of the LORD our God, let us send word far and wide to the rest of our brothers in all the land of Israel, and also to the priests and Levites in their cities and pasturelands, so that they may join us. Then let us bring back the ark of our God, for we did not inquire of Him in the days of Saul” (1 Chronicles 13:1-3, BSB).

David said, ‘Rulers persecute me without cause, but my heart fears only your word  (Psalm 119:161 BSB). David, during his struggles and flight from Saul, as much as David could have dwelt solely on mapping out various strategies for procuring his deliverance from the wicked hands of Saul, David constantly thought about the God of his salvation, he thought about the ark of God and how Israel could restore the ark of God to its rightful place and reconcile their relationship with God. After being made king, David’s immediate concern was the lack of Israel’s fellowship with God and how they could bring the ark back to its rightful place, thereby restoring their fellowship with God.

What we meditate on shapes our actions, conduct, and character. Just as our bodies are nourished by what we eat and drink, our spiritual and physical well-being is based on our thoughts and meditations. A good person, out of the good treasure of his heart, produces good; an evil person, out of the evil treasure of his heart, produces evil. For the abundance of the heart determines what one speaks (Luke 6:45).

The infinite mercy and love of Jesus Christ, along with the sacrifice made on our behalf, compel us to reflect seriously and solemnly. We should meditate on the scriptures, the character of our beloved Redeemer and Intercessor, and the mission of Him who came to save His people from their sins. As we contemplate these heavenly themes, our faith and love will strengthen, and our prayers will become more acceptable to God, as they will be mixed with faith.

As we meditate on the perfections of our Savior, we will desire total transformation and renewal in the image of His purity. There will be a deep spiritual hunger and thirst to become like Him whom we adore. The more we focus our thoughts on Christ, the more we will speak of Him to others and represent Him to the world.
