Now behold, a man came and said to Him, “Good Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life” (Matthew 19:16)? The rich young ruler carried a burden but understood the connection between obedience and the reward of inheriting eternal life. Listening to the words of Jesus Christ and putting them into action makes our walk as disciples thoughtful and intentional.

Imagine keeping a detailed record for the next 24 hours of how you spend your time, money, and how you make decisions. You would quickly uncover your true priorities. You might not even realize how much you value certain things and how they align with God’s priorities until you take the time to reflect. Acting on God’s Word is essential because it reveals the truth about Christ, guides our lives, and provides comfort and direction. It is the source of wisdom, strength, and peace, renewing our hearts, minds, and actions in a way that honors God, the Father. Ultimately, living according to God’s Word leads to spiritual growth, fulfillment, and a deeper relationship with Him.

“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock” (Matthew 7:24-25). In all your engagement with the blessed Word, we must remember this truth: abide in Jesus, your source of wisdom. Study diligently to understand the written Word, but study even more to know the living Word, in whom you are of God. Jesus, the wisdom of God, is truly known through a life of implicit confidence and obedience.
