I first encountered the Navigators in 2010, during my first year at the University of Ghana. Amadi, a student member of the Navigators and others invited me to their Sunday General Meeting, and I was happy to accept. Soon after, I felt a sense of belonging because of the novel perspective they brought to discussing the Word of God. I also really enjoyed the tasty snacks served at the meetings. Subsequently, I joined their bible studies, and we learnt the assurances.
At a laborers’ retreat I attended, Prof. Adanu spoke about lifelong discipleship, which inspired me to commit to being discipled and also discipling others. After completing my studies, I sought out an older Nav lady for discipleship, and God gave me Mrs. Gina Baa-Poku (Auntie Gina). We delved into various topics through Bible studies, including a book titled “Surrender”. My discipleship journey continued with the late Auntie Aku, and I also learned from other women like Racheal Annan and Deborah Naa Norley Quist-Therson Mensah.
This experience has profoundly impacted my prayer life. The Word of God has become the foundation of my prayers, influencing my language and changing my perspectives on life’s situations. I have also been blessed with valuable friendships, particularly with Auntie Gina and the late Auntie Aku, who have been more than mentors; they became friends I could rely on.
Currently, I am part of an accountability program with two sisters where we read and memorize the Word and share our reflections weekly. Furthermore, my husband and I participate in a family bible study every other Saturday and are we also discipling three young men. Looking ahead, we are hoping to start a bible study with Etornam soon, a young man in our new community, Amanfro.
