“I will worship toward thy holy temple and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name” (Psalm 138:2, KJV). This verse emphasizes the importance and the power of God’s Word, highlighting it as a source of truth, love, and faithfulness.

The Bible is far more than just a doctrinal guidebook. God’s Word generates life, creates faith, produces change, frightens the Devil, causes miracles, heals wounds, builds character, transforms circumstances, imparts joy, overcomes adversity, defeats temptation, infuses hope, releases power, cleanses our minds, brings things into existence, and guarantees our future forever! We cannot live without the Word of God. We should never take it for granted; instead, consider it as essential to your life as food. Job said, “I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily bread” (Job 23:12).

John, the beloved disciple, bore witness to the incarnation of the Word of God, who is Christ (John 1:1-14). He described it as glorious, graceful, and truthful. He stated emphatically, “Grace and truth came from Jesus Christ” (John 1:17). The Lord Himself affirmed: “The words I speak are spirit and life” (John 6:63); “I am the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6); “I am the bread of life” (John 6:35); and He identified Himself as the source of living water (John 4:10, 7:38). He also described Himself as the good shepherd (John 10:11), who lays down His life for the sheep. Through the Spirit, Christ continues to abide in the hearts of His children, creating a union with us that is closer now than when He walked the earth in person.

The condition for eternal life has always been the same, as it was in Paradise before the fall of man’s first parents: perfect obedience to the law of God and perfect righteousness. So, what should be our attitude and stance as disciples of the Lord towards the Word of God? We ought to demonstrate daily persistence and care in walking in obedience. This wise saying teaches us our proper disposition towards God’s Word: “My son, pay attention to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. Do not lose sight of them; keep them within your heart” (Proverbs 4:20-21).
